• In 2001, Peru ranked last in the PISA Plus evaluation (Program for International Student Assessment), an UNESCO study in 43 countries on Reading and Math. 81% of students attend public schools, in which education is commonly massive and deficient.
• In Peru, 140 000 children dropout of school every year. 23% of primary school students flunk at least once (UNICEF, 2001).
