Aprendamos Juntos

We promote solutions to the problems of the public education system in Perú

"Aprendamos Juntos" works with those children whose ability to learn is interfered because of social and economic disadvantages. We aim to:

• promote their success in school, with a positive attitude towards learning.
• allow every child to reach their full potential.
• raise their expectations of themselves and of life.
• strengthen their hope for the future.

Our goal: to prevent and treat learning difficulties in early childhood

As many as 35% of school children in the poorest sectors of Lima have learning difficulties, due to:

• Malnutrition
• Little or no pre-school
• Lack of parental support, families with little or no education
• High rates of violence in their environment
• Public education is highly inefficient

How we work:

We partner with elementary schools, identifying children who are struggling and could benefit from special support. Some are seriously behind their peers and find it very difficult to learn in regular classroom conditions.

• Each school provides us with a classroom.
• We assign a team of professionals specializing in learning difficulties to each classroom.
• We evaluate all children entering first grade. Children rating below average participate in the Program .
• Pupils taken on by "Aprendamos Juntos" receive bi-weekly sessions of 45 minutes with the same tutors.
• We also give workshops for their parents and teachers, since they play a fundamental role in their development.
  

Our staff works very closely with the classroom teachers to assess the needs of each child and their progress .

Presently, we are developing a "social franchise" , with the objective of helping more children with learning difficulties throughout the country. We are looking for partners who are willing to make a change in disadvantaged children's lives. Please contact us for more information.
